Exploration Program – Khénifra Permits | Phase 1 Summary
Introduction
As part of its targeted strategy to assess critical mineral deposits in Morocco, Coppernicus Mining Company has launched an exploration program covering four permits located in the central Hercynian Massif, near Khénifra. This initiative aims to evaluate the mineralization potential of a region renowned for its geological richness and proximity to established mining sites.
The study area lies within the central Hercynian Massif, a geologically promising region shaped by Hercynian orogeny. It is characterized by:
- A folded and faulted Precambrian and Paleozoic basement,
- Granite intrusions and metamorphic formations,
- A stratigraphic sequence ranging from Cambrian to Carboniferous,
- Structural features favorable to copper, gold, iron, and base metal mineralization.
This domain forms part of the Variscan Belt, extending from Europe to North Africa.
The program was structured into several key phases:
Literature Review
Compilation of geological, geophysical, and geochemical data from Moroccan geological maps, scientific publications, and mining reports.
Mapping of Mineral Occurrences
Use of satellite imagery and bibliographic data to identify historic workings and high-potential zones.
Geological Mapping
Delineation of lithological units, faults, folds, alteration zones, and structural features favorable to mineralization.
- Significant lithological diversity (metavolcanics, metasediments, intrusive rocks),
- Fault networks identified as likely fluid pathways for mineral deposition,
- Several indices suggesting copper mineralization within carbonates and quartz veins, indicating real economic potential.
- In-depth Fieldwork: Ground validation of remote sensing interpretations,
- Geochemical Sampling: Collection and analysis of soil, rock, and stream sediment samples,
- Geophysical Surveys: Magnetic and electromagnetic campaigns to detect deep anomalies,
- Exploratory Drilling: Targeting high-potential zones based on compiled data.
Institutional Framework
This program is part of Coppernicus Mining Company’s commitment to responsible and sustainable exploration, fully aligned with international ESG standards in the mining sector. It is conducted in full compliance with Moroccan regulatory frameworks, in coordination with national authorities and local partners.
Conclusion
This initial phase has laid a solid foundation for assessing the mining potential of the permits near Khénifra. Upcoming work will focus on integrating field data with advanced analytical techniques to define priority zones for future mining development, in line with the company’s sustainable growth strategy in Morocco.
