Exploration Progress in the Guelmim Region – Preliminary Phase 2025
Introduction
As part of its exploration strategy targeting high-potential polymetallic mineralizations, Copernicus Mining Company has launched a preliminary research campaign across five permits located in the Bas Drâa inlier, within the Guelmim-Oued Noun region of southern Morocco. This initiative is aligned with the company’s broader vision of identifying and sustainably developing mineral resources in underexplored strategic zones.
The exploration area spans five research permits in the Bas Drâa inlier, west of the Anti-Atlas. The region is geologically characterized by a complex Precambrian basement overlain by Neoproterozoic to Paleozoic volcano-sedimentary sequences.
From a metallogenic perspective, the zone presents promising indicators of copper, lead, zinc, gold, and silver mineralization, particularly associated with fault zones and favorable lithological contacts.
The project followed a phased and structured approach:
- Strategic Phase: Review of geological literature, satellite imagery analysis, mapping compilation, and identification of potential mineralized structures;
- Tactical Phase: Field campaigns including geological mapping, index localization, structural measurements, and sample collection;
- Pre-Feasibility Phase (in preparation): 3D modeling, trenching, drilling, and preliminary techno-economic analysis.
The fieldwork relied on multi-scale mapping (1:200,000 to 1:50,000) and identified several geological features such as veins, fractures, and trench structures of interest for further investigation.
Initial findings reveal:
- A wide variety of lithologies: volcanic, carbonate, metamorphic, and sedimentary rocks;
- A dense fault network likely controlling hydrothermal fluid circulation;
- Presence of copper-rich mineral indices along lithological contacts and major faults.
These results confirm the region’s metallogenic interest and support the transition toward more advanced exploration techniques, including geochemical sampling and drilling programs.
Based on the encouraging geological observations, Copernicus Mining Company plans to initiate the next phases of exploration, focusing on resource modeling, targeted drilling, and feasibility studies. The area shows clear potential to host viable polymetallic deposits that may contribute to the company’s long-term strategic asset portfolio.
Institutional Framework
All exploration activities are conducted in compliance with Moroccan mining regulations. This program reflects the company’s commitment to geological excellence, environmental responsibility, and local value creation, in partnership with national stakeholders where applicable.
Conclusion
This preliminary campaign marks a pivotal step in assessing the mineral potential of the Guelmim district. The promising results reinforce the strategic relevance of this region and lay the foundation for a structured and responsible exploration pathway aimed at unlocking future mining opportunities in southern Morocco.
